At Firbeck Primary & Nursery we encourage  children to develop to the best of their abilities and to have equal access to all aspects of school life regardless of race, gender, sexual orientation, ability or special need.

We seek to create an atmosphere in which children develop respect for the beliefs and cultures of others whilst feeling positive about themselves

We aim to achieve high standards in all areas of the curriculum including creative, social and sporting activities.

We consider the variety of ways in which children can learn and express themselves .

We aim to sustain motivation and provide a sense of achievement.

We value the full and effective partnership of children, staff and Governors working together in an atmosphere of openness and trust.

Parents

Parents are always welcome in school and a telephone call will ensure that the Head Teacher will be available if parents wish to see her.  The staff are available to see parents before and after school session times, although if you wish to discuss anything in detail, an appointment would be advisable.

We encourage regular communication between home and school, formally and informally. As part of our communication with parents, each child receives an annual written report to supplement regular verbal reports from teachers during Open Evenings. Parents are also invited into School for workshops, class assemblies and to share in many of the other events taking place in school.

We welcome parent/carers' help in school. This may be to observe at swimming, hear readers, assist on school trips, introduce new craft activities, help with ICT. If you have a particular skill in any area which you would be willing to share with us, please let us know.

Admission

At present, the school has 3 junior classes, 2 infant classes, a foundation stage unit and an Individual Needs Centre for deaf children.  Children under 5 can attend on a part-time or full-time basis, A member of staff will contact you when a place becomes available. You will then be invited to visit prior to admission. As children approach 5 years of age, parents will be able to arrange their child's admission to the school serving their home address or seek a place at another school of their choice.

Foundation and Infant staff at Firbeck work together to ensure the smooth transfer of children into school and parents are invited to meet the Head Teacher and Class Teacher the term before your child is 5.
